James Mwaura is a distinguished corporate strategy, risk, and finance professional with over 20 years of experience in the financial services sector and consulting. His expertise spans corporate finance, deal structuring, risk management, credit management, corporate strategy, executive management, and board leadership. James has developed a robust skill set, making him a sought-after leader and advisor in the business community.

Currently, James serves as the Director of Corporate Strategy at Flywheel Advisory, where he is responsible for financial and corporate strategy advisory, governance and regulatory compliance, leading client assignments across various business lines, and driving innovation in financial crime risk management solutions. In addition to his role at Flywheel, James operates as an Independent Consultant, specializing in structured corporate deals, portfolio growth, financial stewardship, and the development of innovative financial models.

Prior to joining Flywheel Advisory, James was the Group Chief Executive Officer at FEP Holdings Ltd, where he provided strategic leadership and oversight of risk management, annual operating plans, and staff management. His strategic acumen helped position FEP Holdings as a leading player in its industry.

James has also held several senior roles at Chase Bank Kenya Ltd (now SBM Bank Kenya Ltd), including General Manager of Corporate Assets, Head of Assets, and Head of Risk. In these roles, he played a pivotal part in developing and executing strategic plans, driving business development, and enhancing the bank’s risk management framework.
